Miguel González was born in Querétaro, Querétaro, and currently resides in Monterrey, N.L. So far, his practice has focused on drawing and painting. His work is narrative, though it often contains moments in which line and color break away from their symbolic function and return to an abstract nature. His themes and ideas shift over time; however, his interest in everyday life, spatial representation, and the intersections between representation and the cultural identity of Monterrey remains a constant.
“Malas Mañas” brings together visual chronicles inspired by the streets and culture of northeastern Mexico. Images that seek to frame certain atmospheres: a darkened street corner, the roar of a black, decked-out pickup truck, the rotten air from factories and rusted pipes, the red of a traffic light, or a 15-peso dance with a fichera in some humid dive bar after hours. Through sensitive cartographies, Miguel builds a cultural narrative of the place he inhabits, incorporating materials found in that very environment—pieces of wood that become frames, ashes that turn into pigment, and slabs of cement that transform into canvases.
A graduate of the School of Visual Arts at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, his most recent exhibitions include: Ciudad Abierta at Casa de la Cultura San Pedro (2025), Lo brutal at Galería Sitio Centro (2025), and The Brainwashing Machine at The Crypt Gallery, London (2024).
